Job Description

This role is for an experienced water and wastewater engineer who wants to own projects from the first study through to construction, with a solid team behind them.

My client is an Eastern Ontario civil consultancy whose many offices operate as a single team, pulling project staff together across locations as needed. Their municipal side is busy. In Ottawa, about half the staff work on it, serving the City and many of the surrounding municipalities, alongside provincial and federal clients such as DCC/DND, Public Services and Infrastructure Ontario.

This role sits at the senior end. You’d lead your own projects, look after budgets, schedules and clients, and help win the next round of work. You can be based at whichever office is closest to you.

Responsibilities

• Leading project teams through analysis, planning, preliminary and detailed design, and construction management on:
  • Inground reservoirs and elevated storage tanks
  • Water and wastewater pumping stations
  • New transmission and distribution watermains, plus renewal of existing mains
  • New sewers and renewal of existing collection systems
• Owning the budget, schedule, resourcing, quality and risk on each project
• Carrying out engineering studies, asset management work and Class EAs for water and wastewater infrastructure
• Producing design reports and overseeing drawings, specs, tender packages, cost estimates and approval applications
• Running contract administration and inspection during construction
• Dealing directly with clients, approval authorities, subconsultants, contractors and other stakeholders
• Mentoring and coordinating junior engineers
• Leading proposals for new work

Qualifications

• P.Eng. in Ontario with 10 years or more of design and project management experience
• Water and wastewater background covering planning, design and construction administration
• A history of getting designs approved by regulators and environmental agencies
• Confident putting together cost estimates and specifications
• Comfortable with Word, Excel and MS Project
• Happy running projects independently and juggling several at once
• Able to communicate clearly with engineers, clients, stakeholders and approval authorities alike

Compensation

Up to $155,000 per year, depending on your experience and technical depth.
