SSA are currently working with a leading Irish Mechanical Engineering Contractor seeking to hire a Mechanical Foreman based in the West of Ireland.
Role Purpose:
The role of Mechanical Foreman will be responsible for supervising and coordinating mechanical installation teams on-site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standards. The successful candidate will work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, site management teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades to support the successful delivery of mechanical projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise, coordinate, and lead mechanical installation teams, including direct labour, subcontractors, and specialist installers.
Plan and organise day-to-day site activities, labour allocation, materials, tools, plant, and equipment to meet programme requirements.
Ensure all mechanical works are completed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, method statements, risk assessments, and Irish building regulations.
Liaise with Project Managers, Project Engineers, subcontractors, suppliers, and other trades to ensure smooth coordination and delivery of mechanical works.
Monitor site progress, productivity, quality of workmanship, labour performance, and installation sequencing.
Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and pre-task briefings to ensure operatives understand work requirements and health and safety controls.
Review mechanical drawings and coordinated layouts to identify installation requirements, clashes, access issues, and buildability concerns.
Assist with resolving technical, sequencing, coordination, and site installation issues.
Ensure installations are completed to the required quality standards and support testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover requirements.
Coordinate with other trades regarding access, sequencing, supports, penetrations, builders' openings, and interfaces.
Mentor and support apprentices, general operatives, and junior members of the mechanical installation team.
Requirements:
Fully qualified plumber, pipefitter, or mechanical craftsperson with relevant trade certification.
Minimum 5 years' experience in mechanical installation, ideally within the mechanical engineering or building services industry.
Minimum 2 years' experience in a supervisory, chargehand, team lead, or foreman role.
Strong practical knowledge of HVAC, pipework, plumbing, plantroom installations, mechanical services, supports, testing, and commissioning.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, coordinated layouts, and specifications.
Valid Safe Pass and Manual Handling certification essential.
MEWP, Abrasive Wheels, Working at Heights, or First Aid certification would be an advantage.
Good understanding of Irish construction site safety requirements and site coordination practices.
Excellent leadership, communication, organisational, and planning skills.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to use initiative and manage site issues effectively.
Experience across commercial, industrial, healthcare, pharmaceutical, hotel, public sector, or data centre projects would be an advantage.
Full clean driving licence desirable.
