SSA are working with a Tier 1 M&E Contractor seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join there Central Engineering Design divisions in Dublin working on exciting data centre projects in Ireland and Europe
Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities: In conjunction with the project team, you will take responsibility for the technical delivery and coordination of mechanical design across various stages of the project, including:
- Lead and manage the mechanical design process from project handover through to completion.
- Review project design specifications, drawings, schedules and technical documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Develop and review detailed mechanical design drawings, layouts, specifications and technical documentation.
- Produce and review coordinated drawings incorporating mechanical, electrical, sprinkler, structural and architectural elements.
- Coordinate mechanical services with the wider design team to ensure fully integrated and clash-free solutions.
- Attend project handover, design coordination and technical meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and the in-house project team.
- Review design proposals and identify opportunities for value engineering, cost savings and improvements in buildability.
- Assess technical queries and provide appropriate engineering solutions through the RFI and design clarification process.
- Review and assess technical submittals, equipment selections and material proposals to ensure compliance with the project specification.
- Liaise closely with consultants, contractors, suppliers and internal teams on technical design and engineering matters.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other members of the design team.
- Review and approve design deliverables, ensuring accuracy, quality and compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of project programmes, design deliverables and weekly progress reports.
- Support the procurement process by reviewing equipment requirements, technical specifications and material requisitions.
- Review equipment and material selections to ensure they meet the required technical and performance criteria.
- Support the project team with technical and commercial aspects of the project, including variations, take-offs and cost-saving opportunities.
- Identify and resolve design issues proactively to minimise delays and ensure the successful delivery of the project.
- Maintain effective communication and coordination between the design, construction and commercial teams throughout the project lifecycle
Requirements:
- 8+ years experience working with a recognized contractor as a mechanical engineer.
- Relevant engineering experience in a general contracting environment is required.
- Honors degree (NFQ Level 8 for Ireland) in Mechanical engineering.
- Proven ability to lead projects, manage technical and financial aspects, and deliver high quality mechanical systems.
- Design and implementation of mechanical systems such as Critical cooling, HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection.
- Knowledge of electrical systems supporting the mechanical plant.
- Strong understanding of industry standards, regulatory requirements, and value engineering principles.
- Experience in mentoring junior engineers and fostering collaboration within multidisciplinary teams.
- Competence in design software such as Navis works, ACC, BlueBeam or similar platforms.
- Strong communication skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders and external consultants
