My client has been established over 50 years and are one of the largest demolition and asbestos removal contractors in Europe.  They work throughout the UK and into Europe, employing circa 450 employees across a variety of high profile, large scale heavy industrial demolition projects e.g. power stations, petro-chem plants etc.

They have an excellent, hard earned safety record, which through integrated systems certified to OHSAS18001, BS14001 and BS9001, they aim to maintain and continuously improve.  They carry out all demolition works, explosive demolition and asbestos related works in house.

About the requirements

My client currently has an opportunity for a dedicated, hardworking, professional resident Site Safety, Health & Environment Manager to join their team and work with their site teams

Ideally the successful applicant will…

  • Be a Member of IOSH at or working towards Chartered level
  • Hold as a minimum a NEBOSH General and/or Construction Certificate but preferably a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
  • Have previous demolition/construction site management experience
  • Lead by example to continuously improve our safety performance
  • Be methodical and logical in approach to site management
  • Able to learn quickly and happy to ask questions to identify weaknesses
  • Works well under pressure
  • Confident and happy to be client facing representing them in meetings etc
  • Be flexible and willing to travel across UK and possibly Europe depending on contract needs

About the role 

  • Advising and working to improve working practices on site
  • Creation and maintenance of CDM documentation (eg, Construction Phase Plans, Environmental Management Plans, etc.)
  • Daily checks, inspections and maintaining associated records
  • Leading and participation in audits, both internal and external
  • Providing training and guidance
  • Accident and incident investigation
  • Reviewing RAMS and advising on safe systems of work
  • Management of environmental monitoring during the project (including Vibration, Noise, Fugitive Dust, and Water)
  • Management of sampling of materials for waste characterisation, treatment, re-use or disposal
  • Carry out tool box talks
  • Preparation of monthly reports, presentations and data
